23. Cruisin up and down the rivers ...

On a very hot - extremely hot actually - and very hazy sunny day I made my way down 42nd Street to Pier 83 for an early morning start to a 3 hour cruise around Manhattan Island.

Now if you are not interested in bridges, this posting may not hold your attention for long ...

Our cruiser ...

The Route ... and the bridges ... (image from Circle Line)

WTC - the city and the harbour stops to remember 12 years ago

It's fun being a tourist ... Jersey City in the background

... you know who ... coming up astern ...

... Manhattan and the first of our 19 bridges in the background to the right ...

United Nations Building

The apartment building in the centre recently sold for $5b ... Chrysler Building in background

Back out into the cooler climes of the Hudson River at last ...

The Cloisters - see previous blog

And the final span - George Washington Bridge ... by this stage most wise tourists had retreated inside to the air conditioned cabin for the final half-hour leg back to the pier.

Not the most exciting 3 hours I have spent whilst in NYC - but we had a very well-informed and interesting commentator for the trip - speaking about the history of the island and the rivers etc ... so it is a worthwhile excursion to take.

A bit of natural science next time ...
