259. Museo Arte Contemporanea Sicilia

Located within the Small Abbey of the Monastery of San Benedetto Via Crociferi ( a UNESCO World Heritage site ) in central downtown Catania is the The Museum of Contemporary Art Sicily known as the MacS Project … this is a museum project that is all about the promotion of Italian and international contemporary art. This ever-growing permanent collection of artworks from young and established artists from all nations reaches across all genre and is beautifully curated  in this ancient setting … on view at any one time is a fraction of the total artworks in the collection.

 

The goal of the Museum “ … is to create a friendly, active museum, dynamic and expanding, that encourages the exchange of opinions and the circulation of ideas. A museum capable of interacting with the public by offering a young and fresh vision of art, away from stereotyped labels. A museum that gives space to creativity and artistic expression …”.

 It was so nice to leave the hot pavement and the ancient city outside and climb the carpeted stairs to spend a couple of hours in the company of such an eclectic collection of contemporary artworks, beautifully curated and with no other pesky tourists to distract my enjoyment ...
