... Sofia studio with a view ...
... anyway I started this little "cameo" a few weeks back during my stay in Milan and finally ( after a fair bit of procrastination .. ) got it finished here in Sofia ... the piece features a postcard image of a most exquisite painting that I fell in love with during my stay in Palermo, Sicily ...
Donna di Sicilia in costume di Piana Degli Albanesi
painted in 1933 by Ettore de Marie Bergeler ( 1850-1938)
Hanging in the Galleria D'Arte Moderna di Palermo
Secret Letters from the Woman of Sicily
250 x 180 x 30 mm
The frame is made from 'rescued' cardboard and covered with rescued paper dots from a hole puncher - giving it a lizard skin scaled look. The paper is then painted with a water-proof sepia-coloured Indian ink - then painted over with an all-purpose-PVA-glue - which, when dries, gives a nice gloss finish ... The paper used for the scrolls has been rescued from an Italian art book also dated 1930s.
... haven't decided yet on whether to leave her behind in Sofia
or smuggle her home in my luggage ...
