291. Sydney Contemporary Art Fair

Another reason ( as if I needed one ... ) for a stop-over in Sydney on my way back home, was to visit the Sydney Contemporary Art Fair at the enormous and fabulous Carriageworks arts precinct.

This annual event is Australasia's largest international art fair showcasing works from emerging and established artists represented by over 90 leading galleries ...

The Carriageworks is the largest multi-arts cultural centre in Australia and is housed in the old Eveleigh railway yards in Redfern ... The distinctive 19th century industrial atmosphere of the former railway carriage and blacksmith workshops with their massive steel pillars and exposed brick walls etc has been retained and creates a fascinating contrast against the pure white display screens and multi-coloured 21st century artworks ...

I have posted only a fraction of the art on show ... this was such a professional event showcasing our young ( and not so young ) contemporary artists ...

And just a note of interest here ... as you know I have been gallery/museum-hopping around Eastern Europe ( and previously Western Europe ( and NYC ) for two years now - and discovered so much wonderful, creative, inspiring, intelligent world art - but NOT ONCE did I come across any Australian 19th 20th 21st century art. About time our leading galleries here started promoting AusArt abroad ...
