8. Paintings at the Met.

The Metropolitan Museum boasts a world-famed collection of European paintings exhibiting works of art from the thirteenth through the nineteenth centuries.

Gallery after gallery to lose yourself in ... so many great works to chose from ... I have represented here just a smattering of works that caught my eye ...

Without using a tripod - which are allowed only on special days - it is very difficult photographing paintings - so please excuse the odd angle of some photos.

A State Yacht and other Craft in Calm Water - Jan van de Capelle - 1668  - Dutch

The Harvesters - Pieter Bruegel the Elder -  1565 - Brussels

The Dormination of the Virgin - Hans Schaufelein - 1510 - Germany

Washington crossing the Delaware - Emanuel Leutze - 1851 - USA

The Gulf Stream - Winslow Homer - 1899 - USA

The Northeaster - Winslow Homer - 1895 - USA

On the Southern Plains - Frederic Remington - 1907 - USA

The Water Garden - Childe Hassam - 1909 - USA

Banks of the Loing - William Picknell - 1895 - USA

Alpine Pool - John Singer Sargent  - 1907- USA

The Adoration of the Christ Child - 1510 - Workshop of the Master - Netherlands

Young Woman Dancing - Marie Denise Villers - 1801 - France

Don Andres de Andrade y la Cal - Bartolome Esteban Murillo - 1665 - Spain

Why bother spending all that time labouring over a painting, when you can get up real close with your camera !!!

Two more galleries to bring you - tomorrow is my favourite - Marble and Stone ...
