44. Marvel at the Marble at the Louvre

So back to the main foyer of the Musée du Louvre - and after a quick lunch - I head to the Richielieu Wing to saturate my senses with a bit of marble gazing ...

While I was gazing at the marble - I'm not quite sure what these four Roman boys were doing !!!

This beautifully lit gallery featured wonderful 18th Century French marble works ...

Other beautiful pieces were scattered throughout the museum ...

Much more stone and marble artworks - as well as beautiful porcelain and metal works - from the different eras of human existence were on exhibition along with the paintings in all the galleries ... too much to record on this blog I'm afraid ...

But here is an assortment - just to give you an idea ...

Beautiful tapestries ...

Porcelain ...

Several rooms from Napoleon's apartment ...

Exquisite enamel works ...

Stunning stained glass ...

Gilded geldings and their maidens ...

Gold by the ton ...

Timber ...

More porcelain ...

Pewter from Persia ...

ceilings to break your neck ...

Creaking parquetry ...

... and gallery after gallery

miles of wonderful artworks

That is the Louvre ...

And in complete contrast I'll take you to the Pompidou Centre tomorrow ...
